The mega-budget "The Lone Ranger" went down in a cloud of a dust in its box-office debut over the July 4 weekend, saddling the studio with a "John Carter"-sized disaster.

Over the five-day holiday weekend, the masked rider will have brought in around $49 million. That's about $20 million under analysts' projections and nearly $90 million behind the total of the No. 1 movie, Universal and Illumination Entertainment's animated family film "Despicable Me 2."

Worse, the $29.4 million three-day Friday-Sunday total for the $225 million adaptation of the classic radio and TV show, with Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as Tonto, was weaker than that of last year's bomb "John Carter."

That $250-million sci-fi adventure opened to $30.1 million, topped out at $73 million at the domestic box office and Disney wound up with a $200 million write down.

It's hard to imagine Disney executives aren't questioning the decision they made last summer to restart production on the Western after having shut it down when the budget began spiraling out of control.

"The Lone Ranger" marks the second consecutive major box-office misfire for Depp, who starred in last summer's "Dark Shadows." That send-up of a 1960s TV vampire soap cost $150 million to produce and topped out at $80 million. It opened to a mere $29 million -- and "The Lone Ranger" did worse than that.

With Depp and the "Pirates of the Caribbean team of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski on board, Disney had hoped "The Lone Ranger" could do for Westerns what that $3.7 billion four-film franchise had done for pirate movies....More

Rihanna got nasty at her Birmingham, UK show on Tuesday night, June 18, and we're not talking about her erotic stage show.

With security guards surrounding her, the 25-year-old S&M singer stepped down into the audience to greet fans and shake hands. When one concertgoer refused to let go of her arm, Rihanna took matters into her own hands and whacked the person with her microphone.

The pop star isn't apologizing for the incident either. She tweeted after the performance: "Purpose! That b**** won't let me go." Link

Pia Zadora is very serious about her beauty rest. The former Broadway star, who was arrested on charges of domestic battery and coercion at her Las Vegas home on Saturday, June 1, reportedly flew into a rage against her teenage son over his curfew -- because it was affecting her own quiet time.

According to a police report released on Monday, June 3, the 61-year-old entertainer was trying to get her 16-year-old son, Jordan, to go to bed around 11 p.m. on Saturday when the argument broke out.

"Jordan said he told his mom he wanted to stay outside and talk because it was a weekend night," the police report said, according to CNN. Zadora --who had been drinking alcohol earlier in the night with her husband, Las Vegas Police Det. Michael Jeffries -- then became "upset and angry" and "got the hose and started squirting everyone, insisting that Jordan go to bed and Mike Jr. [Jeffries' son] leave," the report continues.

When Jeffries and her 32-year-old stepson Mike Jr. attempted to intervene and stop Zadora's erratic behavior, however, the actress scratched at her husband's face and even punched her stepson.

The argument and physical fight continued on throughout the night, and several hours later, at 4:30 a.m., Zadora and Jordan "wrestled" over his cell phone as he attempted to call the police...More

Chris Brown is been accused of committing a hit-and-run offence.

The Don't Wake Me Up singer reportedly refused to hand over his driver's licence and insurance information when he crashed his Range Rover into the back of a Mercedes at a set of traffic lights in Beverly Hills, California last week and police are now looking into the incident, according to TMZ.

Chris, 24, is still on probation for violently assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, leaving her face battered and bruised, and this alleged hit-and-run could trigger a violation.

However, sources close to the star claim he did nothing wrong. The friends said Chris gave the woman involved in the crash his correct details and when he lawyer attempted to contact her aftewards she hung up on him. Subsequent calls have also reportedly gone unanswered, according to the gossip website.

This is not the first time the Fine China hitmaker - who was en route to a recording studio with his former lover Karrueche Tran - has been involved in a car crash.

In February, Chris wrecked his Porsche 911 after he hurtled into a wall claiming he was cut off by "aggressive" paparazzi photographers in Los Angeles, California.

A spokesman at the time said: "The occupants jumped out, with cameras, and aggressively approached his vehicle. In an effort to remove himself from the situation, he [Chris] began to back down an alley at which point his was cut off by two additional vehicles.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The last time O.J. Simpson was in a Las Vegas courtroom, he stood next to defense attorney Yale Galanter before being handcuffed and hauled off to prison for up to 33 years.

On Monday, the former football hero returns to Clark County District Court with a different set of lawyers hoping to convince a judge that Galanter shouldn't have been handling his armed robbery-kidnapping case — that the lawyer who was paid nearly $700,000 for Simpson's defense had a personal interest in preventing himself from being identified as a witness to the crimes and so misled Simpson that the former football star deserves a new trial.

"To me, the claims are solid. I don't know how the court can't grant relief," said Patricia Palm, the Simpson appeals lawyer who produced a 94-page petition dissecting Galanter's promises, payments and performance as Simpson's lawyer in the trial that ended with a jury finding Simpson and a co-defendant guilty of 12 felonies.

Galanter declined to comment ahead of his is scheduled testimony.

Of the 22 allegations of conflict-of-interest and ineffective counsel that Palm raised, Clark County District Court Judge Linda Marie Bell has agreed to hear 19.

The five-day proceedings are technically neither a trial nor appeal. There won't be any opening statements. The judge will listen to testimony before deciding whether Simpson deserves a new trial. It's not clear whether Bell will rule immediately.

Simpson now says that Galanter knew ahead of time about his plan to retrieve what he thought were personal mementoes and met with Simpson in Las Vegas to discuss the plan the night before Simpson and five other men confronted two sports memorabilia dealers and a middleman in a cramped casino hotel room in September 2007...More

The Los Angeles Times reports that Lindsay Lohan violated her probation by leaving Morningside Recovery on Thursday, where she was to begin 90 days of court-ordered treatment. Deputy Santa Monica city attorney Terry White said that he learned Lohan spent just a few minutes at the Orange County rehab facility before leaving. "Ms. Lohan is in violation of her probation, that much is clear," said White, who added he didn't know Lohan's whereabouts.

Meanwhile, a source told Us Weekly that she left the facility because "she felt Morningside was not suitable for her. There were too many paparazzi everywhere and she didn't feel safe. Nobody close to her is happy about this. They think she's really not being smart."

Where in the world is Lindsay Lohan?

On Thursday morning, Lohan's attorney Mark Heller told L.A. Superior Court Judge James Dabney that his client was currently checked into rehab at Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach, California, and that therapy "is under immediate commencement." However, according to multiple reports, Lohan is not in rehab (SplashNews even photographed the troubled starlet shopping at a Southern California electronics store).

The New York Daily News claims the "Mean Girls" actress is currently on her way to LAX to catch a flight back to New York City.

"If there's credible confirmation she's heading back to New York, then I'm going to have to go in and ask the court to issue a warrant,” Deputy Santa Monica City Attorney Terry White told the publication.

Michael Lohan has confirmed to Radar Online that his daughter already left Morningside: “I have no other choice than to get this out there to help Lindsay.” More
