Golf can humble even the best players in the world, but this? THIS?!? This is downright humiliating. Spanish golfer Rafael Cabrera-Bello was playing his second round at the South African Open this week, and wasn't playing that well.

Cabrera-Bello opened with an even-par 72, but was, to say the least, struggling mightily in the second round. How bad? He lost all the golf balls he had in his bag, and was disqualified for it. That's right, Rafael basically one-upped the famous Tin Cup moment by losing that final balata, and was put out of his misery early by rule 4-4a.

According to Jason Sobel of ESPN, Cabrera-Bello lost all 11 golf balls he had in his bag, and couldn't use another because the rules don't allow such a thing, so he had to disqualify himself.

How bad were his first 10 holes of the second round? About as ugly as a Barkley six-iron. Cabrera-Bello shot a 46 on the first nine, with a bogey, an eight and a 10 on two par-4s...More

Angelina Jolie is the target of more criticism over her feature directorial debut, a love story set during the Bosnian War.

The actress -- who recently cut short the film's shoot after rumors that it portrayed a relationship between a rapist and his victim sparked protests -- was called "ignorant" on Monday by a group of women who were victims of sexual violence during the 1990s war, the AFP reported.

In a letter to the United Nations refugee agency, for which Jolie is a goodwill ambassador, the Women Victims of War said its members are "deeply concerned about the movie."

"Angelina Jolie's ignorant attitude towards victims says enough about the scenario and gives us the right to continue having doubts about it," the letter read.

After rumors of the rapist love story line surfaced in October, a group of Bosnian War rape victims pressured city officials to withdraw Jolie's filming permit.

The rumors proved to be untrue, and after the country's minister of culture read the script -- about a Bosnian woman who falls in love with a Serb man -- the permit was reinstated. However, Jolie earlier this month cut the shooting schedule from 10 days to three and decided to film some of the scenes originally planned for Bosnia in Hungary instead...More

In the early morning hours after last Thanksgiving, a barefoot Tiger Woods left his home, quickly pulled his Cadillac Escalade out of his Windermere, Fla., driveway and made an awkward, unnatural 210-degree turn into a tree and a fire hydrant.

By the time the cops came, his wife, Elin, had smashed his back windows out with a golf club and mentioned Tiger may be on Ambien. Then his world exploded.

The crash came in the wake of a National Enquirer story about Tiger cheating on Elin. It caused a tidal wave of mistresses to step forward in a nearly unprecedented tabloid fury. There were wild tales from VIP hostesses and porn stars. There were cringe-inducing admissions about a college-aged neighbor and the waitress at the local Perkins where Tiger and Elin used to go and read the newspaper...More

In the world of comedy, more human beings have seen a movie directed by Tom Shadyac than have ever seen a movie directed by Woody Allen. From 1994-2007, Shadyac had a nearly unprecedented run of comedy hits, from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" to "The Nutty Professor" to "Liar Liar" to "Bruce Almighty." His style was slick, impersonal and to-the-point: He delivered movies on time, under budget and with little-to-no fuss. It made him a millionaire. He now lives in a trailer park.

He's there by choice. After 2007's "Evan Almighty" -- coincidentally his worst received, most over-budget film -- he decided that he wanted no part of the Hollywood life. So he sold his Pasadena mansion and most of his possessions, moved to a trailer park in north Malibu and began work on his documentary "I Am." What's "I Am" about? It's about how human beings are too competitive, about whatever is hard-wired in our brains that makes us want to work against each other rather than cooperate. That's quite a step from "Patch Adams."

What made Shadyac make such a drastic turn? It might have been a concussion he suffered a few years ago -- Shadyac says it isn't, but you know, of course he'd say that, concussion and all -- or it might have just been the emptiness that seeps in when you realize that making massively popular Jim Carrey comedies just doesn't do it for you like it used to. In our favorite detail from the story, he now requires his agent and representatives, before they take a meeting with him, "paddle-board in the ocean with him before anyone can start talking business."...More

Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has been fired, and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has been promoted to the head coach position. The initial reports were first confirmed by the CBS-TV affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth. In his 3½ years as the Cowboys' head coach, Phillips amassed a 34-22 regular-season record, and a 1-2 mark in the postseason with a team built by Bill Parcells. The tipping point in a horrible 1-7 season was the "Sunday Night Football" game against the Green Bay Packers.

It was one of the worst defeats in Dallas Cowboys franchise history -- a 45-7 Sunday night loss at Lambeau Field in which the score didn't really indicate how lopsided the game was. The Pack outgained the ‘Boys by more than a 2-1 ratio (415 to 205 net yards), had 71 offensive plays to Dallas' 48, and converted 67 percent of their third downs to 40 percent for Dallas.

The difference in rushing yards was the real embarrassment -- once again, Dallas' prized backfield was an afterthought, as the Cowboys gained just 39 yards on the ground. That was in part a result of how far ahead the Packers were early, but it's been a problem all season...More

A noticeably somber President Obama acknowledged that his party took a "shellacking" at the polls Tuesday night, telling a White House news conference that he takes "direct responsibility" for the frustration voters feel, particularly on the economy.

Yet Obama repeatedly refused to say that historic GOP gains across the country were a widespread rejection of the policies his administration has pursued. Instead, the president argued that voters were more angry at the lack of progress in crafting effective policies, and the perception that business as usual in Washington wasn't changing. "We were in such a hurry to get things done that we didn't change how things got done," the president said, promising to "work harder" to build consensus with Republicans.

The election, Obama said, "underscores for me that I have to do a better job."

Obama's message wasn't so different from George W. Bush's in 2006, when the then-president went before reporters after Democrats took control of Congress and admitted his party had suffered a "thumpin'." Like Bush, Obama echoed the opposing party's call for "greater civility" and pledged to work together....More

T.I. was sentenced to 11 months in prison today after a judge revoked the rapper's probation following his arrest on drug charges in Los Angeles last month, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. T.I., who was released from prison just eight months ago, after serving nearly a year behind bars on federal weapons charges, was on three years' probation as part of his initial plea bargain. Two days ago, T.I. helped police in convincing a suicidal man not to jump from a 22-floor Atlanta building, but the rapper's rescue, and the police's gratitude toward T.I. for assisting in the situation (one of the officers reportedly spoke at today's hearing), apparently did not factor into the judge's decision. T.I. was given two weeks to turn himself into authorities.

T.I. and his wife Tamika "Tiny" Cottle were arrested on September 1st after their Maybach was pulled over in Los Angeles. Police smelled pot coming from the vehicle, and a search of the car turned up multiple controlled substances. The rapper was charged with possessing ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon...More

CNN host Rick Sanchez came under fire Friday after making controversial remarks the previous day on a satellite radio show.

Sanchez called out Comedy Central host Jon Stewart as a "bigot" for mocking him, and complained that Jews — like Stewart — don't face discrimination. He also suggested that CNN, and perhaps the media industry more broadly, is run by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself.

Clearly, those comments didn't sit well with the network, which put out a terse statement around 6 p.m. Friday.

"Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," the CNN statement read. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well."

So far, Sanchez hasn't spoken out about the explosive interview Thursday on "Stand Up! with Pete Dominick." On the radio show, the now-former CNN star didn't just make a single impolitic statement, but spoke at length — for roughly 20 minutes — about Stewart and a media world he believes to be filled with "elite Northeast liberals" who consider Hispanic journalists "second tier." Sanchez is a Cuban-American.

He specifically called out Stewart as someone with "a white liberal establishment point-of-view" who "can't relate to a guy like me." Also, Sanchez claimed that Stewart is "upset that someone of my ilk is at, almost, his level."...More

NARITA, Japan - Paris Hilton canceled her Asia tour and returned home when she was denied entry at Tokyo's airport Wednesday following a drug violation in the U.S. — running afoul of strict Japanese laws that have tripped up celebrities from Paul McCartney to Diego Maradona.

"I'm going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future," a smiling Hilton told reporters before departing on her private jet.

The 29-year-old celebrity socialite had arrived at Narita International Airport, outside the Japanese capital, two days after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge in Las Vegas. Japan has strict immigration laws that bar entry to those convicted of drug offenses, although exceptions are occasionally granted.

Hilton was to appear Wednesday at a news conference in Tokyo to promote her fashion and fragrance lines. She arrived Tuesday evening, but was stopped at the airport and spent the night at an airport hotel after being questioned by officials.

"I'm really tired," said Hilton, wearing a black baseball cap and a navy sweat suit.

Hilton also abruptly canceled planned appearances in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia....More

Advice guru Laura Schlessinger said she'd been considering ending her three-decade radio career for the last year, and the furor over racially insensitive remarks she made on-air last week was merely the tap on the shoulder she needed to leave.

Though she announced her plan to quit "The Dr. Laura Program" at the end of the year on Larry King's CNN show Tuesday night, she said she made the decision last Friday — three days after uttering the N-word and other statements about race on her show, and two days after apologizing for the same.

"I was just sitting here, looking over the ocean," Schlessinger said in an interview Wednesday morning from her Santa Barbara home. "It was sort of a peaceful wave of awareness — an inner voice just said, 'We're done with this.' The second it came over me, I felt very energized."...More

Fantasia Barrino's autobiography was called Life Is Not A Fairytale, and perhaps no memoir has ever been so aptly titled. Despite winning "American Idol" in Season 3 and going on to sell millions of records and earn eight Grammy nominations, she certainly hasn't lived an idyllic existence in her recent post-"Idol" years. And just when she seemed to get her life on track preparing the August 24 release of her comeback album, things went awry for the 26-year-old, as she found herself surrounded by scandal (she was accused in divorce court papers of breaking up a marriage, then was hospitalized this past Monday for overdosing on medication).

Thankfully, Fantasia's overdose was not life-threatening, but she's still proof that the "Idol" fairytale doesn't automatically lead to a happy ending. The Cinderella story behind the show is that once singers perform on what is arguably America's biggest stage, they're set for life. But for many "Idol" contestants, their troubles really begin once the show is over...More

Lindsay Lohan will serve "about 14 days" of her 90-day jail sentence, L.A. sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore tells UsMagazine.com.

The actress, 24, has been "extremely cooperative" since entering the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif. Tuesday morning, Whitmore said earlier.

Lohan, who smirks in her mug shot, will spend her days in solitary confinement in a 12-foot-by-8-foot cell.

"She will be kept away from general population," Whitmore said.

After Lohan surrendered, her attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told reporters that Lohan "is asking for your prayers and support. She has stepped up and accepted responsibility."

Holley described Lohan as "a talented young woman and I appreciate that she has accepted responsibility here. She is scared -- as anyone would be -- but is as resolute as anyone could be and she is doing it."...More

GSTAAD, Switzerland — In a stunning ruling, Roman Polanski was declared a free man on Monday – no longer confined to house arrest in his Alpine villa after Swiss authorities rejected a U.S. request for his extradition because of a 32-year-old sex conviction.

The decision left the Oscar-winning director free to return to France and the life of a celebrity, albeit one unable to visit the United States.

Hours after the ruling was announced, Polanski's assistant said he had left his multimillion-dollar chalet with his family. Half-empty glasses seen on a back porch testified to a hasty exit.

"Mr. Polanski can now move freely," Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf declared. "He's a free man."

Switzerland, which arrested the 76-year-old Polanski last September as he arrived receive a lifetime achievement award at a Zurich film festival, blamed U.S. authorities for its decision, citing a possible "fault in the U.S. extradition request."

The United States failed to provide confidential testimony to refute defense arguments the filmmaker had actually served his sentence before fleeing Los Angeles three decades ago, Widmer-Schlumpf said...More

“His brand is [bleep] now,” one high-level NBA official said late Thursday. “He’s destroyed everything.”

The Championship of Me became the Championship of Flee, because LeBron James doesn’t believe he can be the centerpiece of a title team. He needed Dwyane Wade, a closer, far more than Wade needed him.

Yes, he’s ruined everything. What a wonderful idea: Divorce your childhood sweetheart on national television and tell her, hey, I’ll let you keep the “We are all Witnesses” billboards lording over downtown Cleveland.

“I’m taking my talents to South Beach,” James said, and it was like time stopped because – even for him – this was a moment so devoid of reality and free of concern of consequences. South Beach? He wasn’t picking a basketball team as much as a party. He’s 25 years old, and yet somehow this felt like a cloistered teenager picking a party school for college...More

WASHINGTON – The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan has been summoned to Washington to explain derogatory comments about President Barack Obama and his colleagues, administration officials said Tuesday.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who publicly apologized Tuesday for using "poor judgment" in an interview in Rolling Stone magazine, has been ordered to attend the monthly White House meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan in person Wednesday rather than over a secure video teleconference, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. He'll be expected to explain his comments to Obama and top Pentagon officials, these officials said.

Obama has the authority to fire McChrystal. His predecessor, Gen. David McKiernan, was sacked on grounds that the military needed "new thinking and new approaches" in Afghanistan.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen has told McChrystal of his "deep disappointment" over the article, a spokesman said...More

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren has surely received audience complaints before — but a recent email exchange irked her enough to take issue with it on her own blog. And in a move that Fox executives probably would have tried to discourage had they been consulted, Van Susteren also urged her blog readers to weigh in on the central point raised by her correspondent: that she is, well, rather dimly lit.

It all started when Brian of Tahlequah, Okla., told Van Susteren she had a "mind like a seive" (yes, it should be "sieve"). Brian didn't stop there: He also wanted the host to know that her "brain is empty".... More

LOS ANGELES - Lindsay Lohan is expected in court next week after missing a mandatory hearing on Thursday.

Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, says the 23-year-old actress will return to Los Angeles on Saturday and appear in court Monday morning.

After a few breezy days at the Cannes Film Festival, where she attended various events to promote her Linda Lovelace film and partied into the wee hours on the day she was supposed to be in court in Beverly Hills, Lohan is coming home to a litany of legal woes.

She was to be arrested upon her return to Los Angeles for missing the mandatory hearing, but a judge recalled the warrant late Thursday after Lohan posted bail.

Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel set bail at $100,000, revoked Lohan's probation and imposed strict new conditions on the star, who was due in court for a progress report on her probation stemming from two arrests in 2007...More

CLEVELAND – This isn’t important enough to LeBron James. That’s the uncompromising, unconquerable truth. Everything has come too easy to him, and he still doesn’t believe that winning championships takes a consuming, obsessive desire that borders on the maniacal. He is chasing high school and college kids on recruiting trips for his fledgling marketing company, medicating his insecurities with unending and unfolding free-agent dramas.

James is chasing Warren Buffett and Jay-Z the way he should be chasing Russell and Jordan and Bryant. He wants CEOs to bow before him, engage him as though he is a contemporary on the frontlines of industry. In his February public apology, Tiger Woods vowed he would show more respect to the game of golf. No more fist pumping, no more club tossing and no more profanity-laden outbursts after bad shots.

He made it about 42 holes.

During Saturday's third round of The Masters, Woods repeatedly cursed at himself loudly enough for television microphones to pick it up and air it live on CBS. The mini-temper tantrums came during a stretch on the front nine when Woods made three bogeys in four holes.

After a poorly-struck tee shot on the par-3 6th hole, Tiger closed his eyes in disgust and loudly said, "Tiger Woods, you suck." He followed that with a Commandment-breaking expletive and a shake of the head.

With impeccable timing, CBS announcer Verne Lundquist chimed in, "I don't think he's pleased."...Next

Aside from his Oscar win, documentary filmmaker Roger Ross Williams can't seem to catch a break. He's now better known for being ambushed onstage by former co-producer Elinor Burkett (now nicknamed "Lady Kanye") during his acceptance speech, rather than for his film, "Music by Prudence," which won for best documentary short. The day after the Oscar incident, Williams attempted to give the speech he wrote in a public forum, and again he was interrupted.

Because of the speech-hijacking incident, Larry King invited Williams on his show last night. After discussing the "Kanye moment" for a few minutes, King announced, "We wanted to give him a chance to give his speech, uninterrupted." Williams walked over to the side of the stage, where a microphone had been set up. Holding his speech in his hand, he began speaking as if he were still in front of the Oscar audience and had just learned his film had won. ("Oh my god, oh my god.")...More

ESPN has suspended former Monday Night Football analyst and host of Pardon The Interruption Tony Kornheiser for "a few days" after comments he made on the radio about the wardrobe of SportsCenter host Hannah Storm.

ASPEN, Colo. -- Charlie Sheen spent the better part of Christmas Day in a Colorado jail cell after being arrested on domestic violence allegations.

The 44-year-old actor was taken into custody Friday morning by officers responding to a 911 call from a house in this ski resort town about 200 miles west of Denver.

An ambulance went to the house, but the accuser was not taken to the hospital.

Sheen, the star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men," was taken to the Pitkin County jail and booked for investigation of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, Aspen police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said.

Dasaro declined to name Sheen's accuser, citing a department policy prohibiting the identification of potential victims in domestic violence cases.

Aspen attorney Richard Cummins said late Friday that he was representing Sheen in the case. He declined to name Sheen's accuser or discuss details, but he cautioned against any rush to judgment...More
